64. Silas SHURTLEFF 1 was born 12 Mar 1737 in Attleboro, Massachusetts. He died 15 Aug 1816 in Charlemont, Massachusetts. Silas married Fear MERIFIELD. [Parents]

He was a carpenter by trade. First four children died with scarlet fever in less than a week (not listed here). (Shurtleff, 1976)

He was a private in Capt John Stearns' third company, comprising the train band and alarm list dated Attleboro, Apr 6, 1757; also private, Capt Jonathan Eddy's company, Col Ephraim Leonard's regiment, under command of His Excellency Jeffry Amherst Esq.; general and commander-in-chief for the invasion of Canada; enlisted Mar. 21, 1759; age, 22 yrs.; residence, Attleboro; and in Capt John Taplin's comnpany, Col Frye's regiment; served until Nov 20, 1760; service, 21 mo, 23 days, endorsed company at Fort Cumberland, 28 days, 1 mo.; service from Jan 1, 1760, in Nova Scotia; was on a list of passengers on board sloop Prosperous from Cumberland, Chignecto, N.S., to Boston; account rendered by John Bragdon, master, against the province of Massachusetts Bay for passage money dated Nov 24, 1760; also Capt. Lawrence Kemp's company, Col David Wells' regiment; entered service May 10, 1777; discharged July 17, 1777; service, 2 mo., 9 days; company of Hampshire Co. militia for service in Northern department (Shurtleff, 1976)

65. Fear MERIFIELD was born 26 Jun 1738 in Charlemont, Massachusetts. She died Sep 1807 in Charlemont, Massachusetts.

Fear Merifield was of French descent (Shurtleff, 1976 revised)

James SHURTLEFF was born 1 24 Jul 1768 in Cumberland, Rhode Island. He died 1 12 May 1842 in Albion, Edwards Co., Illinois.

In 1812 he settled in West Virgninia. His six sons measured 36 feet in their "sock feet". (Shurtleff Descendants, Vol I, p. 123).

Silas SHURTLEFF 1 was born 12 Aug 1770 in Cumberland, Rhode Island. He died 1816 in Palmyra, Wayne Co., New York.

BIOGRAPHY: Had a large family and was a cripple (Shurtleff, 1976).

Margaret SHURTLEFF was born 1 10 Nov 1775 in Charlemont, Massachusetts. She died 1 9 Jun 1855 in Bone Gap, Edwards Co., Illinois.

Lois SHURTLEFF 1 was born 2 before 1781 in Massachusetts.

In 1815 Lois and Thomas left Massachusetts and settled in French-creek, West Virgninia (Shurtleff Descendants, Vol I, p. 125).

Sabria SHURTLEFF was born 1779 in Charlemont, Massachusetts. She died 12 Aug 1808.

Drowned in Deerfield River (Mass) while attempting to cross in a canoe, which upset with Eunice (Rice) aged 40, the wife of Timothy Knowlton of Rowe (Shurtleff, 1976).

66. Ezekiel SMITH 1 was born 1745/1765 in Near Acton, Massachusetts. He married Sarah FLINT.

BIOGRAPHY: Fought in the battle of Bunker Hill

67. Sarah FLINT 1, 2 was born before 1770.

DEATH: Died by drowning in the Onion River, VT.

70. Robert James LOWERY Sr. 1 was born 1 about 1752 in Sumter Co., Chesterfield District, South Carolina. He married 1 Penelope UNKNOWN before 1768.

Robert is listed in the DAR Patriot Record as DAR Patriot Record as having "furnished supplies" for the Revolutionary War effort.

71. Penelope UNKNOWN 1 was born 1 about 1755 in South Carolina.

72. Paul WENTWORTH Jr. 1 was born 1 about 1758 in Berwick, York Co., Maine. He died 1 4 Sep 1833 in Bangor, Penobscot Co., Maine and was buried 1 in East Knox Cemetery, Waldo Co., Maine. Paul married 1 Mary COFFIN on 4 Feb 1782. [Parents]

73. Mary COFFIN 1 was born 1 27 Jul 1763 in Conway, Carroll Co., New Hampshire. She died 1 22 Sep 1842 and was buried 1 in East Knox Cemetery, Waldo Co., Maine.

84. John WELLS 1 was born before 1755 in Burke Co., Georgia. He married Jane DUHART.

85. Jane DUHART 1 was born in St. George Parish, Burke Co., Georgia.

His Will was recorded August 21, 1802 in Kershaw Co., NC with no wife
named in will. He resided in Chatham Co., NC during the Revolutionary War
and served as a Minute Man as 2nd Major by appointment on September 8,
1775.
