  Mrs. Blanche Stone White, 61, of Pine Bluff, formerly of Hamburg, died in a Little Rock hospital Friday, July 21. Mrs. White was secretary of the Harmony Baptist Association in Pine Bluff. She was a member of the Watson Chapel Baptist Church.
  Mrs. White is survived by her husband, Rev. Harold White; one son, Curtis White, Fort Leonardwood, Mo.; one daughter, Mrs. Harolyn Stevenson, Louisville, Ky.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stone, Hamburg; one brother, Douglas Stone, Monticello; two sisters, Mrs. Robbie Flemming, Delark, Mrs. Anna Ruth Kelley, Fountain Hill; and five grandchildren.
  Funeral services were held in the First Baptist Church, Pine Bluff Sunday at 2:30 p.m. by the Reverends John McClanahan, Edwin Hindson, Charles Ashcraft and Jimmy Watson. Pallbearers were Leroy Carter, Don Majors, Pat Henderson, V.L. Browning, Gene Reynolds and Dr. Larry Henderson. Honorary bearers were the members of the executive board of the Harmony Baptist Association.

He died 5 Jun 1991 in Hamburg, Ashley Co., Arkansas and was buried 3 in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Ashley Co., Arkansas.

62. Douglass Van Buren STONE [scrapbook] "Doug" (Robert Marion , Jackson Van Buren , William Benton , Rauley ) was born 28 May 1924 in Ashley Co., Arkansas. He died 17 Aug 2000 in Hamburg, Ashley Co., Arkansas and was buried 19 Aug 2000 in Hamburg Cemetery, Ashley Co., Arkansas.

  Douglass Van Buren Stone was born 28 May 1924 in Ashley County, Arkansas.  He was the only (surviving) male child of Robert and Ruth Stone.
  Doug married Grace Shurtleff on 23 January 1943 in Snyder, Ashley Co., Arkansas.  They continued to live in the Bearhouse Township area, near Doug's parents.
   In October, 1969, Doug started serving as the Director of Music for the Northside Baptist Church in Monticello.  He held this position for more than 15 years.  He also served as Sunday School director for 11 years, served as secretary for the Board of Deacons, and served as a member of the Bartholomew Baptist Association Executive Board.  Doug was also very active in Gideons International.
  Around 1986 Douglass and Grace moved to Hamburg, Ashley Co., Arkansas.
  Doug developed Parkinson's disease which became increasingly debilitating through the 1990s.  Grace lovingly cared for him through this trying time.  Doug passed away on 17 August 2000, and is buried in the Hamburg Cemetery, Arkansas.

Obituary:
   Douglass V. B. Stone, 76, of Hamburg died on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Hamburg.  Stone was a native of Ashley County, a former resident of Monticello and a resident of Hamburg for the past 16 years.  He retired from the Drew County Road Department in 1986, and he was a deacon of the First Baptist Church in Hamburg.  He was a Gideon, a Mason and a member of the Woodmen of the World.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert M. and Ruth Mason Douglass Stone, and two sisters, Blanche White and Robbie Fleming.
   Survivors include his wife, Grace Shurtleff Stone of Hamburg; a son, Robert E. Stone and his wife Fran of Crossett; a daughter, Joyce Hussey and her husband, J. C.; a sister, Anna Ruth Kelley and her husband, Hershel; three grandchildren Robert D. Stone and his wife Susan of Crossett, Robinan Gentry and her husband Derrick of Monroe, La., and James R. Shell and his wife Donna of Washington, DC; and five great-grandchildren.
   Funeral was on Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Hamburg, with Dr. Bobby Pennington and the Rev. Klois Hargis officiating.  Interment followed at the Hamburg Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.  Memorials may be made to the Mt. Olive Cemetery Association, c/o Mrs. Linda Shiver, 215 James Stone Road, Hamburg, AR 71646.

Doug married 1 Grace SHURTLEFF [scrapbook], daughter of Walter Ervin SHURTLEFF and Maggie Ardell YOUNG "Ardell", on 23 Jan 1943 in Snyder, Ashley Co., Arkansas. Grace was born 14 Jul 1924 in Ashley Co., Arkansas. She died 20 Apr 2001 in Hamburg, Ashley Co., Arkansas and was buried 23 Apr 2001 in Hamburg Cemetery, Ashley Co., Arkansas.

  Grace was born on 14 July 1924 in Ashley Co., Arkansas, and was the fourth of eight children born to Walter and Ardell. Less than a week before Grace's 6th birthday her younger brother, Walter Ervin Jr., would die at age 3.

Obituary:
  Mrs. Grace Shurtleff Stone, 76, of Hamburg died Friday, April 20, 2001, at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. A native of Ashley County, a resident of Hamburg for the past 15 years and a former resident of Monticello, she retired from the Monticello post office in 1966. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas V. B. Stone in August, 2000; her parents, Walter and Ardell Young Shurtleff; a brother, Norman Shurtleff; and a sister Ozell Poole.
  Survivors include a son, Robert Stone and wife Fran of Crossett; a daughter, Joyce Hussey and husband J. C. of Berryville; four sisters, Mildred Johnson and Bobbie Roberts of Little Rock, Billie Sheppard of Alexandria, and Alice Grider of Crossett; three grandchildren, Robert Stone and wife Susan of Crossett; Robinan Gentry and husband Derrick of Monroe, LA, and James R. Shell and wife Donna of Manassas, VA; and five great-grandchildren.
  Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, April 23, in the First Baptist Church of Hamburg with Dr. Bobby Pennington and Rev. Klois Hargis officiating. Pallbearers were Billy Jack Ragland, Ronnie LaGrone, Tommy Hollis, Donald Wayne, Bob Rush and Freddie Martin. Burial followed services at the Hamburg Cemetery with arrangements by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Gideons International, P. O. Box 83, Crossett, AR 71635 or to the Mount Olive Cemetery Association, c/o Linda Shiver, 215 James Stone Road, Hamburg, AR 71646.

  Mrs. Lillian Douglas Lee, 80, of Montrose, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at the Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith. Mrs. Lee was a native of Ashley County; a resident of Montrose for most of her life and a resident of Fort Smith for the past five years. She was a homemaker and a beautician. She was a member of the Montrose Baptist Church where she served as the church organist for over 30 years and for the past five years she has been a member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Fort Smith.

She was the area director for the Arkansas Public Health Department until retiring in 1989, administrative assistant to former Ashley County Judge W. T. Higginbotham for many years, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamburg where she served as church pianist for over 30 years.
